World-Class Companies Expanding Global Recruitment and Exports

[By Kim Hyeon-jin , Cheonji Ilbo] South Korea’s promising small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are transforming into global leaders by attracting top talent and expanding exports.
On the 23rd, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (Minister Paik Un-gyu) and KOTRA (President & CEO Kim Jae-hong) hosted the World-class Product Show 2017 (WPS 2017) at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Samseong-dong, Seoul.

 

The event was organized to facilitate export expansion for companies selected under the World-Class Product and World Champion programs while connecting them with job-seeking youth. The event included:

The recruitment fair featured 18 companies selected for their world-class products, including Shinsung E&G, which boasts the highest solar cell production efficiency in the world, and 14 World Champion companies like LANDF Corp, which holds the world’s third-largest market share for cathode materials for secondary batteries. These 32 companies plan to hire around 100 people through on-site interviews.

 

Cha Dong-ik, CEO of MedExel, which was selected as a Next Generation World-Class Product company for its safety pen needles, said, “Participating in this customized recruitment consultation event for SMEs and mid-sized companies was meaningful, especially given the promising export prospects for North and Central American buyers we met at the Florida International Medical Expo (FIME) in Orlando this August. We are committed to growing into a global champion with talented individuals who share our vision for the global market.”

 

In the export consultation meetings, 100 Korean SMEs and mid-sized companies met with 43 buyers in one-on-one sessions. Additionally, 26 buyers and 19 Korean companies signed MOUs/export contracts worth KRW 66 billion (USD 60.1 million). The next day, on the 24th, these buyers are scheduled to individually visit the domestic companies’ business sites to discuss additional supply and other current issues.

 

Seon Seok-gi, Executive Vice President of. KOTRA’s Customer Service Department, remarked, “World-Class and World Champion companies are at the forefront of Korea’s exports. By recruiting top talent, they are not only enhancing their competitiveness in the fierce global market but also contributing to job creation. KOTRA will will expand its participation in these programs for nurturing leading SMEs, and enhance consulting services to provide full support for these companies to grow into global specialized firms.”
