[By Jeong Hee-seok , Medical Times]
On May 14, at the Grand Ballroom of the 63 Convention Center in Yeouido, Seoul, MedExel Co., Ltd. (CEO: Cha Dong-ik), a leading manufacturer of pen needles, announced that CEO Cha Dong-ik awarded the prestigious Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, and R&D Director Park Won-gwi received a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy at the 52nd Invention Day ceremony.

Previously, MedExel’s Safety Pen Needle, designed for self-administered insulin injections, was recognized as a Next Generation World-Class Product in 2016.
The MedExel Safety Pen Needle successfully overcame global patent barriers through the development of avoidance technologies based on thorough prior technology analysis, becoming the first in Korea and the sixth in the world to be developed and commercialized. The product not only substitutes imports but also offers high quality and cost competitiveness, enabling MedExel to enter the global medical device market.

MedExel also achieved a technological advantage over global competitors by developing the world’s first functional cap for pen-type syringes. The company’s contribution to strengthening the competitiveness of the national medical device industry through the development of safety pen needles has been widely recognized.

Moreover, MedExel established an in-house Intellectual Property Team dedicated to patent management, ensuring that all ideas generated during the development process are protected as proprietary technologies.
Over the past two years, MedExel has applied for 24 intellectual property rights and registered 12 of them, providing invention compensation to employees to encourage innovation and promote new industry technologies.
